Fed Cup athletics: Sinimol, Kuldev adjudged best

Bhopal : Sinimol Paulose and Kuldev Singh were adjudged the best female and male athlete on the concluding day of the 14th Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships here Saturday.

Jharkhand girl Sinimol showed again her grit and determination to win the 800 m event, clocking the 4:23.71 sec ahead of Kerala’s Bindhu S.R (4:33.75) and Uttar Pradesh’s Priyanka Singh Patel (4:34.22).

Sinimol secured 1,096 points and Kuldev 1,112 points.

In the pole vault event, Gajanan Upadhyay of Jharkhand won the gold with a performance of 4.90 m. He tried for 5.11 m to break the national record but was not successful.

In the 10,000 m event, Surender Singh of Army Sports Control Board won clocking 29:52.69 followed by Santosh Patel of Jharkhand (30:10.91).

Jharkhand emerged on top of the list by winning 11 gold, three silver and seven bronze medals while Army Sports Control Board came second with seven golds, three silvers and three bronzes. Jharkhand is gearing up to host the National Games this year.
