New Delhi : Indian lawmakers voiced Friday their admiration for Cuba’s achievements in public health, biotechnology, and women´s emancipation.
Legislators from different partisan factions led by India’s Chamber of Representatives chairman, Somnath Chattarjee, attended a meeting organized by Cuban ambassador Miguel Angel Ramirez to talk about relations between the two countries.
Barun Mukherjee, senator for the Advance Bloc, stated he is deeply impressed by the Cuban public health system, especially the Latin American School of Medicine, where students from tenths of countries are studying.
Dr. Mukherjee pointed out Cubans have secured those achievements despite huge difficulties posed by the US economic blockade, which he called an unfair, merciless policy.
In the meantime, Bhavani Rajenthiran, senator for the Dravida Federation for Progress, praised free teaching on the Island, universalization of higher education, as well as advances of women in social, professional, and political life.
