Srinagar : Two guerrillas of the Al-Badr militant outfit were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district, police said Monday.

Troops from 34 Rashtriya Rifles and the police surrounded Chewdara village in Budgam, 40 km from here, to carry out searches Sunday, a police spokesman said.

“As the troops were busy in searches, militants hiding in a house opened fire at the troops. In the ensuing encounter that lasted several hours, two Al-Badr militants were killed,” said the spokesman.

One of the militants, Janbaz Khan, was wanted in several terror-related cases. “The other militant was identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Dar,” he said.

One house was destroyed in the gun battle.
