A statement from coalition forces’ Bagram base here on Wednesday said that the joint operation was conducted March 2.

A separate statement said the Afghan and coalition forces have positively identified a Taliban leader detained during a joint operation as Mullah Shabir.

Shabir was arrested during an operation in Ghazni province, conducted to target insurgents with ties to Taliban and foreign fighter facilitators.

Shabir is believed to have provided intelligence, logistical support, and improvised explosive devices to Taliban forces, said the statement.

In yet another statement the same day, the coalition troops confirmed the arrest of seven insurgents during an operation in Zabul province.

During the recent operations, the Afghan army and coalition forces infiltrated several compounds and cave complexes in search of insurgents and bomb-making facilities and material.

They found three Vehicle-Borne-Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED), IED making materials, storage facilities, ammunition caches, and insurgent fighting positions.

The combined force called in precision air strikes that destroyed the cave complex, fighting positions, and the ammunition storage areas.
