Mata Deori temple is situated in Tamar block, which is around 60 km from Ranchi. Indian cricket’s one-day and Twenty20 captain has been praying at the temple since the days when he used to play in the domestic Ranji trophy tournament.

According to the temple management, Dhoni has not contributed to the renovation work that has been going on for the last seven years.

“Dhoni has enough money. Due to blessing of Mata Deori, he was auctioned at highest price with Rs.60 million for Indian Premier League. If he desires, his contribution will help in renovation of the temple,” said a member of the temple management.

The priest and shopkeepers are waiting for Dhoni’s arrival at the temple after winning the Commonwealth Bank tri-series tournament.

Mata Deori is known as one of the 52 “Shaktipeeths” of goddess Durga in the country.

“Dhoni is kind enough to give Rs.500-1,000 to priests,” said Manoj Kumar Panda, a priest at the temple.

Every time he visits Ranchi, Dhoni makes it a point to visit the temple. This year he is likely to stay in Ranchi during the Holi festival.

Dhoni’s younger brother, Narendra Dhoni, and his parents are also regular visitors to the temple. Dhoni last visited the temple when he arrived at Ranchi after winning the T20 world cup.
