New Delhi : After the loan waiver for farmers, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is likely to dole out goodies to the central government employees and pensioners Friday.
According to authoritative sources, the cabinet meeting Friday is likely to announce a six percent increase in the dearness allowance (DA) of the central government employees and pensioners.
“The government’s popularity has sky-rocketed with a good railway budget and the union budget, which has granted a Rs.600 billion loan waiver to over 40 million farmers,” said a UPA leader.
A central minister, not wishing to be named, said: “The (DA) announcement will only further improve the credibility of this government. The opposition BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is fully demoralized.”
“While (Leader of Opposition) L.K. Advani says the loan waiver came a day too late, (BJP president) Rajnath Singh says the government acted in great hurry. They are baffled by the move,” he added.
