Jahangir, visiting Jammu and Kashmir as a UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion and Faith, prayed for peace at the shrine, which houses the holy hair relic of Prophet Muhammad.

She also visited the headquarters of the moderate Hurriyat Conference in the morning and met Hurriyat leaders who briefed her about the Kashmir situation.

Before returning to New Delhi, she had a meeting with the state’s Social Welfare Minister Abdul Gani Vakil.

During the meeting, Vakil welcomed the shift in Pakistan’s policy towards Kashmir and said: “This is going to usher in peace and progress.”

Jahangir attended a dinner hosted for her by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik.
