Afghan police kill 2 Taliban insurgents, wounds 3

Kabul : Two Taliban insurgents were killed and three others sustained injuries as they came in contact with police in northwest Afghanistan’s Badghis province, a press release of Afghan Interior Ministry issued here said.

The firefight occurred in Qadis district on Saturday when the militants opened fire on a police station and the police returned fire, killing two rebels on the spot and wounding three others, it said on Sunday.

The ministry further said that Afghan police also captured one more rebel during the clash.

The Taliban, fighting Afghan government and foreign troops since fall from power in 2001, have not made comment.

More than 200 people mostly civilians have been killed in militancy-related violence this year in Afghanistan.
