Pandemonium in Orissa assembly over remarks against Rahul

Bhubaneswar : The Orissa assembly Wednesday witnessed pandemonium over some objectionable remarks made against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by some members of the ruling party, forcing the speaker to adjourn the house a number of times.

As the house began the question hour, leader of opposition J.B. Patnaik draw the attention of Speaker Maheswar Mohanty to some remarks made by a few members of the ruling Biju Janata Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party in the house Tuesday against the Congress leader.

Describing the remarks as objectionable, Patnaik wanted the speaker to expunge them from the assembly records. He also demanded that the members who made such remarks should apologise to the house.

Legislators of the opposition Congress party created pandemonium in the house after the speaker announced that he would examine the issue. The Congress members did not allow the house to conduct normal business. The house was adjourned several times, an official of the assembly told IANS.

Rahul Gandhi, son of Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, visited several towns and villages during his four-day visit to the state that ended Monday.

The ruling party members had alleged that in a pre-planned move, Rahul Gandhi had breached security measures meant to protect him.
