New Delhi : India’s seventh seeded Sunitha Rao registered a facile 6-1, 6-3 victory over Serbian Teodora Mircic here Wednesday to book a place in the quarterfinals of $50,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the DLTA complex.

It was a rewarding day for Sunitha as she and her French partner Aurelie Vedy entered the doubles semi-finals, beating Chinese pair of Wan-Ting Liu and Yi-Jing Zhao 6-1, 6-4.

Shrugging off her lacklustre show in her first round match, Sunitha made a confident start Wednesday, breaking Mircic in the third, fifth and the seventh game to wrap up the first set in no time.

Mircic raised her level in the second set but Sunitha carried on her fine form to seal the match.

“I played pretty well today, better than my first match. I had it easier this time compared to my previous encounter against Mircic. I am improving with every match,” said US-based Sunitha.

In other singles matches Isha Lakhani lost 2-6, 4-6 to Hungary’s Aniko Kapros While Ankita Bhambri went down 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 to sixth seeded Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa.

In doubles quarterfinals, Bhambri sisters — Ankita and Sanaa — failed to live up to the challenge of the Chinese pair of Chun-Mei Ji and Sheng-Nan Sun, bowing out 7-6(5), 6-3.

The Uberoi Sisters – Neha and Shikha – were lucky to get a walkover and advance to the semifinal where they will meet Chun-Mei and Sheng-Nan.
