Guerrilla commander killed in Kashmir

Srinagar : A guerrilla commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen was gunned down by security forces in a south Kashmir village early Tuesday, police said.

Acting on intelligence information, troops from 31 Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police surrounded a house in Dugripora village, 40 km from here. The dead man was identified as Chota Jehangir.

“As the security forces challenged the hiding guerrilla to surrender, he opened fire, resulting in minor injuries to an officer,” a police officer told IANS here.

A gunfight ensued and ended Tuesday morning with the killing of Jehangir, who was identified as the district commander of Hizbul. The house was damaged in the gunfight.
