Durban : Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief Gerald Majola has warned India ahead of their upcoming home series against South Africa, saying Graeme Smith’s boys have the firepower to demolish the hosts in their backyard.
“(CSA) salutes Graeme (Smith) on remarkable achievements at such a young age. His leadership qualities have really come to the fore, and CSA is confident that he will take South Africa to the number one spot in Tests as well,” Majola said in a statement Monday.
“India should beware of South Africa in the forthcoming three match Test series which starts in Chennai next week. Graeme and his boys are going to thump Anil Kumble and his charges,” he added.
Smith last week guided South Africa to the top of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) ODI rankings toppling world champions Australia. The 27-year-old left-hander registered yet another milestone in his career when he displaced Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar from the ODI batsman rankings after a tremendous batting display in the series against
Bangladesh.
Smith is the only Proteas to have scored four Test double hundreds. He holds the world record for the highest first wicket partnership (415 against Bangladesh) in Tests with Neil McKenzie.
“At the age of 27, Graeme has set several landmarks which put him among the best young captains as well as batsmen world cricket has seen,” Majola said.
