Dubai : Sri Lanka has been named as an alternate venue for the 2008 International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Champions Trophy, which is to be held in Pakistan September 19-27.
“As of now, the ICC Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan in September, subject to a full and independent assessment of the security situation in June,” ICC president-elect David Morgan said at a press conference here Tuesday after the meeting of its executive board.
ICC media manager James Fitzgerald said Sri Lanka has been kept as a back-up if the conditions were not conducive for holding the tournament in Pakistan.
