Damascus : The Arab permanent delegates to the Cairo-based Arab League and high-ranking officials have concluded here the first closed session on the Arab Summit agenda.
Syria’s permanent delegate to the Arab League Yousef al-Ahmad said the dialogue during the meeting Monday was deep and serious, expressing belief that the resolutions and decisions of the Arab Summit will be distinguished.
Al-Ahmad pointed out that several final resolutions were reached, and the delegates will continue discussing the Arab Peace Initiative and the Palestinian cause in the evening session, with two issues to be discussed on Tuesday regarding youth and the Arab language.
Regarding the absence of the Lebanese delegate, al-Ahmad said Lebanon sent a letter to the Arab League demanding that the Lebanese issue not be discussed on the level of delegates but instead on the level of ministers.
The Arab Summit agenda includes issues of political, economic and social Arab joint work, mainly the developments regarding the Palestinian issue, the occupied Syrian Golan, the situation in Iraq and refusal of unilateral US sanctions on Syria.
In addition, high-ranking officials in the Economic Council concluded discussions on the economic agenda, except for the article on establishing an Arab satellite surveillance system which will be discussed in the upcoming Economic Council session in Cairo in September.
