Kozhikode (Kerala) : Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) busted a drug racket and seized a total of 11 kg of heroin worth nearly Rs.110 million from two houses in Kerala.

Three people were arrested in the raids in Kozhikode and neighbouring Malappuram district.

The seizure is one of the largest in Kerala, DRI officials said here Wednesday.

Those apprehended by the DRI are Habeeb Rahman, a native of Kozhikode, Kiran Kumar of Kota in Rajasthan, and Rattan, a train ticket examiner working for West Central Railway.

The DRI conducted the operation based on an intelligence tip off. Five kilograms of heroin was recovered from a house at Kuthiravattom in Kozhikode city.

In follow up search, another six kilograms were recovered at Edavannappara in Malappuram. Rahman has been using these houses for the safe keep of contraband, officials said.

According to the DRI, the investigation revealed that the drug was sourced from Kota. The consignment was brought to Kozhikode by train.

Rahman used to sell drugs locally and also smuggle it to Dubai and Saudi Arabia, the DRI officials said.
