President: All Parties Must Help Solve National Problems

By Bernama

Jakarta : President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked people who are not satisfied about the government’s performance to find solutions to, and jointly solve, the nation’s problems, instead of only voicing criticisms, Antara news agency reported.

“I ask those who are dissatisfied to also provide solutions and take concrete actions to help deal with the problems we are facing, and not to create new problems instead,” Susilo said at the Merdeka Palace here on Wednesday when officially opening the 8th national congress of the Indonesian Businessmen’s Association (Apindo).

The President said it was understandable if some parties were not satisfied with the government’s performance because people’s expectations about the government had been quite high.

“The question has often been raised whether any improvements have been made in the country over the past few years. If we look at the present conditions calmly and honestly, the answer is ‘yes, there have been improvements although we also have not achieved a number of things,” the head of state said.

The President asked the approximately 500 businessmen participating in the congress to play a more active role in supporting the government’s programmes.

“There are three programmes on which the government is currently concentrating, namely food price stabilisation, securing the state budget following the world crude oil price hikes, and saving on fuel, electricity and water,” Susilo said.

The President invited businessmen to also play a role in the programmes, among other things by taking part in Community Social Responsibility (CSR) activities for the poor.
