Syria keen on enhancing Arab solidarity – Al-Assad

Damascus : President Bashar al-Assad has reviewed with Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa the agenda of the forthcoming Arab Summit and the efforts exerted to unite the Arab ranks and enhance Arab common work.

President al-Assad stressed Tuesday Syria’s keenness to enhance Arab solidarity and importance of outlining proper mechanisms for the implementation of the Arab summit resolutions.

The president and the Arab League chief also discussed the situation in the region and the exerted efforts to help the Arab Summit adopt influential resolutions on all levels to serve the Arab legitimate issues and confront the challenges faced by the Arab Nation.

Moussa praised Syria’s good preparations to host the Arab summit.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Fayssal Miqdad, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Arab League Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Ahmad bin Hilli and Director of the Arab League chief office Hisham Youssuf.

Later, Minister al-Moallem met Moussa in the presence of Dr. Miqdad.

In statements to reporters, Moussa described as very good his meeting with al-Assad, saying they discussed the topics on the agenda of the Arab Summit and other procedures regarding the summit.

The Arab League chief added that al-Assad will preside over the summit meetings, and the opening session will be public.

As for the main points on the agenda of the Arab Permanent Representatives to the Arab League who met here, Moussa said these draft resolutions and issues would be presented to the Ministerial Council meeting due on Thursday ahead of the summit.

He pointed out that these issues include political, development and economic areas on Arab common economic cooperation.
