Oslo : The new high-level UN envoy, Kai Eide of Norway, officially assumed duties in Afghanistan.
Eide said, in press statements Thursday, that he would rely on his diplomatic expertise to serve the international community, and help find ways to solve the Afghan crisis.
He asserted his mission is specifically aimed at reviewing the local political situation, and finding solutions to end the long and complicated battle in the country.
He added that seven years since the fall of the Taliban, the current Kabul government controls 30 percent of Afghan territory only, a situation which needs immediate and serious action to rectify.
