New Delhi : A 30-year-old labourer from Jharkhand was crushed to death at the construction site of new terminal at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport here Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The victim, identified as Jamuna Ram, was working near the taxiway of the newly built runway when he came under the road roller and was crushed.
The mishap occurred at around 12.30 p.m.
Jamuna Ram was rushed to the Safdarjung hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The police said a case of negligence has been registered and investigations were under way.
“We are probing the matter from various angles and would make arrests once the identity of the guilty person is established,” said a police official.
M.P. Naidu, spokesman of the Larsen and Turbo, engaged in the construction job, denied any negligence on the part of his firm.
“It was a mishap and we are also investigating the matter our own. We have already imparted training related to security and safety issues and Jamuna Ram has been working with us for the past five-six months,” Naidu said.
