Geneva : The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has passed a resolution demanding that Israel halt building settlements in occupied Palestinian territories.
The resolution was passed Thursday at the 7th session of the UNHRC, which denounced Israel’s March 17 decision to build settlements in East Jerusalem and neighbouring areas.
The resolution said that Israeli settlement activities constituted grave violations of international law and the pledges made by Israel at the Annapolis peace conference in the US in November.
The UNHRC reaffirmed the legitimate rights of the Palestinians and the creation of a “viable, contiguous, sovereign and independent Palestinian state”.
