Kolkata: The All India Minority Forum has decided to gherao the West Bengal Wakf Board office on 22nd April as a mark of protest against the ‘corruption’ prevalent in Wakf properties in the state.
The organization announced the program on 29th March. The organization, in the leadership of Advocate Idris Ali, held protests against the stay of controversial writer Taslima Nasreen in Kolkata in November 2007.
Talking to reporters at the Press Club, Ali alleged that properties worth crores were being encroached upon or being exploited for monetary gains by a section of Muslim leaders, who are politically affiliated to Communist Party (Marxist). He demanded investigation into the corruption by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the mishandling of Wakf properties.
Giving details of the program, Ali said the organization first held agitation at the Calcutta Madrasa College. Thereafter, it will converge at the Wakf Board office in central Kolkata. Some other organisations including All India Jame Ashraf Foundation and West Bengal Madrasa Students Union have announced to support the agitation.
