Qatari Emir satisfied with Qatar-Iran ties

Damascus, Syria : Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani here on Saturday expressed his satisfaction with the growing trend of Tehran-Doha bilateral relation.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki held on the sidelines of the 20th Summit of leaders of Arab states being held in the Syrian capital.

The Qatari Emir further stressed that Doha is committed to expansion of ties with Tehran.

He underscored the need for materialization of the agreements previously signed by the two countries’ officials in different areas.

For his part, the Iranian foreign minister also called for materialization of agreements reached between the two sides during recent visit to Tehran of the Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim al-Thani.

The Qatari premier arrived in Tehran at the head of a high-ranking delegation on February 27, 2008, for a two-day official visit.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has ordered formation of a committee to follow up bilateral agreements on economic cooperation, Mottaki added.

The two officials underscored the need for further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Mottaki, on behalf of President Ahmadinejad invited the Qatari Emir to pay a visit to Tehran in the near future.

Mottaki arrived in Damascus Friday evening to attend the Arab states summit.

Mottaki also participated in the 19th Arab League Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last year.
