Sanaa : A car bomb at Ben Salman Mosque in the northern Yemeni province of Saada killed seven people and wounded 35 others on Friday, Saada Gov. Mutaher Rashad informed.
According to the official, the attack was perpetrated by a remote control bomb in a car parked in front of Ben Salman when many soldiers were at the mosque.
The Yemeni Army operates a campaign against rebel groups in that region that has been intensified in the last few days and which seems to link socio-economic and religious factors, noted the media.
In the first versions of today’s attack, several eyewitnesses said dozens were dead and wounded.
Saada is about 124 miles north of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.
Thousands of people have been killed in the area since a Shiite Muslim rebellion erupted in June 2004.
