New Delhi : Kolkata Knight Riders captain Sourav Ganguly Friday was fined 10 percent of his match fee for showing dissent on the field during the match against Rajasthan Royals Thursday in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Match Referee Farookh Engineer reprimanded Ganguly, finding him guilty of the Level I offence of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct.
During the match at the Sawai Man Singh stadium, Ganguly was seen gesturing to umpire Pratap Kumar that South African Graeme Smith had not taken the catch cleanly in the deep. The catch was referred to the third umpire who ruled in Ganguly’s favour.
Ganguly prevailing upon Kumar to refer the catch to the TV umpire was against the Code of Conduct.
Engineer also suspended Kumar for one match on the grounds that that he had gone to the third umpire at Ganguly’s insistence.
The IPL is being played as per the ICC Playing Conditions and Rules.
