Aligarh: A major cause of unrest prevalent in the world is violation and denial of rights, said Islamic scholar Maulana Abdullah Mugheesi, president, All India Milli Council, at an academic gathering in Aligarh on 1st May.
Addressing research scholars and teachers in a programme organized by the Department of Theology, Maulana Abdullah Mugheesi said unity and peace can be established only when all people learn to respect each other’s rights and become sincere about discharging their responsibilities regarding others’ rights. Referring to the life of Prophet Muhammad and other events in the history of Islam, he said whenever rights are ignored or violated, dissension surfaces in the society.
Inaugurating the programme, Prof. Saud Alam Qasmi said Islam is facing both external dangers and internal fissures. He said as Islam has become the target of enemies, it is our responsibility to tackle the situation with care and wisdom. Dr. Shakil Samdani of the Law Department said according to the Constitution of India, every accused has right to defend himself until the court establishes his guilt and, therefore, refusing to plead for persons accused of terrorism is contrary to the Constitution. He was referring to Uttar Pradesh lawyers’ decision to not defend people accused of terrorism.
