Mumbai : Sudhir Nanavati, commissioner appointed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to probe the slapping of Santakumaran Sreesanth by Harbhajan Singh, Tuesday said he was shocked to see the video footage of the incident.
Nanavati saw the video footage of the incident involving Mumbai Indians stand-in captain Harbhajan and Kings XI Punjab pacer Sreesanth April 25 after an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Mohali.
IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi, BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah and joint-secretary M P Pandove were also present.
“I saw the most important evidence of the incident, the video tapes, and I was shocked seeing the tapes,” Nanvati said at the BCCI headquarters here.
Harbhajan has already been banned by match referee Farokh Enginner from the rest of the IPL season for assaulting Sreesanth.
Nanavati has spoken to the match referee Farokh Engineer and will also speak to Mumbai Indians coach Lalchand Rajput
Rajput, an eyewitness to the incident, also faced the ire of match referee for not interfering in the matter and was fined 50 per cent of his match fees.
Nanavati has also spoken to umpire Amish Saheba, who was suspended for a match after criticising Sreesanth’s on-field behaviour in an interview. Saheba, however, denied making any statement.
Nanavati is expected to submit his report to BCCI chief Sharad Pawar Monday.
