Gaza : Israeli aircraft struck a civilian car with a rocket early on Tuesday in the north of Gaza strip killing an occupant and wounding another, witnesses said.
They said Hisham Abu Shomar, an activist of Izz-Eddine Al-Qaasam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic movement, Hamas, was killed in the strike that occurred in the town of Beit Lahia.
At dawn, Israeli ground forces advanced to the eastern fringes of Beit Lahia. Groves were bulldozed during the operation, witnesses said.
Meanwhile, Israel Radio reported that the Israeli forces imposed a tight siege on the Palestinian territories, anticipating possible attacks.
The radio said the blockade, coinciding with a national day in Israel, would remain in effect till late Friday.
