Islamabad : A suicide bomber on Tuesday tried to attack a security check post in Pakistani northwestern city, killing a police man and injuring several others, police said.
The bomber also died when the police on suspicion tried to stop him at the city of Bannu, according to the report.
Five other people were injured in the attack in the military area of the city.
Witnesses said that a man came in a cycle-rickshaw and wanted to enter the check post but the police foiled his attempt and blew himself near the post.
TV channels put the death toll at three including two policemen.
But the district police chief confirmed one policeman Muhammad Naeem died.
The injured were taken to the military hospital in the city.
The security forces cordoned off the area after the attack and did not allow the correspondents to go the blast site.
No group claimed responsibility.
The authorities blame suspected militants for such attacks, who regularly target security forces in the country, especially in the country’s northwest.
Attacks on security forces are carried out again after the Pakistani Taliban ended peace talks with the new government.
It is the second attack on security forces in the northwest in two days following the end of peace talks and ceasefire by the Taliban.
A soldier was injured when Taliban militants attacked an army patrolling team in South Waziristan tribal region on Monday.
