Bye-elections in Pakistan to be held on June 26: EC

Islamabad : The Election Commission has issued the revised schedule for holding of fresh elections/ Bye-Elections, 2008 of vacant seats in the National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies.

The fresh/by-election will be held on June 26, 2008 in eight National Assembly and thirty Provincial Assembly (seventeen seats in Punjab, three in Sindh, three Balochistan and seven seats in NWFP.

Secretary Election Commission in a press release on Wednesday said the Nomination Papers will be filed with the returning officer from 08-5-2008 to 13-5-2008.

Scrutiny of nomination papers by the Returning Officers will be held from 14.5.2008 to 20-5-2008.

Last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the Returning Officers rejecting/accepting nomination papers is 24-5-2008.

Last date for deciding appeals by the Tribunals is 31.5.2008. The candidate can withdraw the candidature on 02.06.2008 and the revised lists of candidates will be issued on the same date.

The Election Commission clarified that the candidates who have filed Nomination Papers with the Returning Officers concerned by the 5th May, 2008 need not file their Nomination Papers afresh. However, the candidates who filed their Nomination Papers on the 6th May, 2008 will be required to file their Nomination Papers afresh within the time specified in the Notifications for filing their Nomination Papers.
