New Delhi : Terror suspect Dr Sabeel Ahmed is being deported to India late Wednesday from the United Kingdom after serving a jail sentence.
Dr Ahmed was arrested in Liverpool on June 30 last year for concealing information about his brother, Kafeel Ahmed’s plot to blow up Glasgow airport.
Sabeel is expected to be brought back in the Southern Indian city of Bangalore late tonight, his mother Dr Zakia Ahmed told news agency Press Trust of India.
Sabeel’s mother said he was in regular touch with her over telephone and had telephoned her Tuesday, to inform that he would arriving in Bangalore late Wednesday. He will be escorted by two metropolitan police officers to Bangalore, the news agency said.
On June 30 2007, Kafeel, , an engineer, drove a explosive-laden jeep into the Glasgow airport.
However there were no casualties in the attack. Kafeel succumbed to his burn injuries later.
Sabeel had confessed to UK police that he failed to inform them about Kafeel’s plans. The London court had directed that Sabeel be released and deported to India because of the time he has already served while on trial.
