Tokyo : Chinese President Hu Jintao Thursday offered a five-point proposal to deepen relations with Japan.
Hu made the proposals during a speech at Waseda University here.
As two important Asian powers with significant global presence, China and Japan should make an objective judgement of each other and treat each other as cooperative partners for a win-win result, rather than competitor of a zero-sum game, Hu said.
Efforts should also be made to boost their mutually beneficial cooperation, he said, adding that the two countries should optimally utilise the huge potentials of their mutually complementary economies.
Coordination and cooperation between China and Japan are indispensable for a more prosperous Asia, Hu said.
China is willing to work with Japan and other Asian nations to push forward regional and sub-regional cooperation, improve common security, safeguard peace and stability in northeast Asia, promote the process of cooperation and integration in East Asia and achieve the common development of China and Japan through efforts to build a more prosperous Asia, he said.
Faced with challenges of terrorism, climate change, problems in energy and food security, financial risks, as well as natural disasters, major epidemics and weapons of mass destruction, the world should join efforts to deal with the threats, Hu said.
China is willing to work with Japan to take an active part in all international cooperation, enhance the capability to deal with challenges, and push forward the great cause of peace and development of the humanity, he added.
“We reached broad consensus on the deepening of the strategic and mutually beneficial relations between China and Japan in an all-round way and worked out a framework for the long-term stable and healthy development of the bilateral ties” during talks with Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda Wednesday, Hu said.
Hu started a five-day state visit to Japan Tuesday, the first by a Chinese head of state to the country in a decade.
