London : A British court Thursday remanded in custody until May 23 five men charged with raising funds and procuring war material for Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tiger guerrillas.
The men included A.C. Shanthan, whom the Sri Lankan high commission here has described as the “de-facto leader in London” of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The LTTE is banned in Britain.
The men, who were arrested in London, Wales and Swindon last week, have been charged with conspiring to receive equipment for terrorist purposes between January 2003 and December 2006.
