Four Turkish soldiers killed in clashes with Kurdish rebels

Istanbul : Four Turkish soldiers were killed early Saturday in armed confrontations with rebels of the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) in the southeastern part of the country.

Turkish Army Command, in a statement, said two soldiers were also wounded in the clashed, which erupted when Kurdish rebels attacked a security force station in the disturbed Hakari province, southeast Turkey.

It added that over the past 24 hours, 20 PKK rebels and six Turkish soldiers were killed.

These developments coincided with the military operation waged by the Turkish Army, backed with helicopters, against the PKK.

In February, the army launched an eight-day offensive against PKK operatives in northern Iraq.
