Top Maoist leader arrested in Jharkhand

Ranchi : Jharkhand police arrested a top Maoist leader from Dhanbad district, police sources said Sunday.

Pramod Mishra alias Ban Bihariji alias BBji was arrested by a Special Task Force team Saturday night from Dhanbad district. Mishra was arrested from the residence of Jairam Mishra, who is said to be his brother-in-law.

Mishra is central committee member of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and in charge of the north India committee of CPI-Maoist. He originally belongs to Aurangabad district of Bihar. He is wanted by the Bihar and Jharkhand police in over two dozen cases.

Police have not revealed where he has been taken after being nabbed.

Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state. In the last seven years over 1,000 people including civilians and Maoist rebels, have been killed.
