New Delhi : All India Jamiatul Quresh held a massive rally of the Quresh community at Ramlila Ground in New Delhi on 11th May, demanding the Congress-led UPA government to give due representation of the community in the legislature.
Sirajuddin Qureshi, president of the organization, gave details of troubles being faced by the community and others involved in the trade. He said Delhi and Haryana governments, both being ruled by the Congress, are not supporting the community. The officials pose hurdles in cattle movement, laborers and workers are detained by the police and force them to give bribe.
He said Delhi alone requires 25,000-30,000 cattle daily for meat but the government has opened a slaughterhouse in Ghazipur of just 2,500 cattle capacity. He demanded the government to build some more modern slaughterhouses.
Addressing the huge gathering of more than 50,000 people under scorching sun, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said she would form a committee comprising leaders of the community to look into their problems. She said she eats halal meat and so it is her moral responsibility to do what she can to resolve the problems faced by the community.
