The rain and thundershowers will continue in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh until Thursday, while Rajasthan will experience dust-storms and thunderstorms, according to the weatherman.

These are likely to lower the day temperatures at many places in the regionm, though the maximum temperature is likely to rise in some places in the north-west and central India.

Sunday’s thundershowers in Shimla and other resort towns of Himachal Pradesh have sharply brought down mercury in these regions, the weather office said.

The unusual cold spell forced many to pull out their woollen clothes in the popular resort town, which is bursting with tourists. The hill state has been experiencing a wet weather spell for past few days.

The country’s highest maximum temperature Monday was recorded at Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh at 45.8 degrees Celsius.

In the capital, the weather remained somewhat pleasant. The maximum temperature was 40 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 25.6 degrees Celsius.

In central India, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh will continue to receive rains and thundershowers until Thursday. Some parts of these states will remain relatively dry.

The meteorological department in its evening bulletin said the south-west monsoon has advanced further into the southeast Bay of Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This development will cause more rainfall in the region.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands received isolated to very heavy rainfall, according to the weatherman.

Isolated squall is expected in West Bengal, Sikkim, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh.

Scattered rainfall and thundershowers are likely in the north-east and southern peninsular region until Saturday.
