Dharamsala : Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama Tuesday mourned the deaths of those killed Monday in an earthquake in China’s Sichuan province.
In a message here, the Dalai Lama said: “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives and injuries that have taken place due to the catastrophic earthquake that struck Sichuan province.”
“I would like to offer my deep sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the affected families. I offer my prayers for those who lost their lives and those injured in the quake,” he said.
A strong earthquake measuring 7.8 on the richter scale Monday jolted Wenchuan in Sichuan province resulting in around 9,000 deaths so far, said China’s state run news agency.
Tremors were also felt in the national capital Beijing, located 1,500 km away.
