Rio de Janeiro : Brazil national football coach Carlos Dunga has called upon players to fight for their release with their European clubs if they wish to participate in the Beijing Olympics.
“I do not want the players to get into an argument with those who pay their salary. But, based on the quality and the prestige they have, they can negotiate. If a player is indifferent in the matter, it becomes difficult to have him in the squad,” Dunga said.
Dunga declined to disclose names, but his comment was interpreted as a call to three veterans – Milan midfielder Kaka, Real Madrid striker Robinho and Bayern Munich centre-back Lucio – he reportedly intends to include in the Olympic squad.
Ricardo Teixeira, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), recently admitted that he is facing problems to obtain the release of stars from their respective club sides for national duty.
