India condoles death of former Kuwait prime minister

Dubai : India has condoled the death of Sheikh Sa’ad AI-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, father of the amir of Kuwait.

India’s Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed called on the Amir of the Kuwait Sheikh Sabah AI-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Thursday and handed over condolence messages from President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The messages from the Indian leaders recalled the farsighted, visionary and able leadership of Sheikh Sa’ad in the development of Kuwait and the love and affection he got not just from Kuwaitis but from people all over the globe.

Sheikh Sa’ad was seen as a great friend of India and as someone who would continue to be remembered for his contribution to the strengthening of the historical bonds of friendship between the two countries, according to the messages from the Indian leadership.

Sheikh Sa’ad served as Kuwait’s crown prince for over 30 years, and as prime minister for 25 years before he relinquished the post in 2003 due to poor health.
