Trooper flees camp in Kashmir, then kills himself

Srinagar : A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper Friday fled from his camp and shot himself dead hours later with his service rifle in his home in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Police here said Muhammad Iqbal Rather, a trooper of 183 battalion of the CRPF, had fled from his camp in Kakapora, Pulwama district, early Friday. His body was found in his home at Palhalan town in Baramulla district, 42 km from here, in the afternoon.

“He had shot himself dead. We have recovered his service rifle which lay beside his body in his home,” Sheikh Junaid, additional superintendent of police, Baramulla district, told IANS.
