Kidnapped Indian released in Afghanistan

By IANS,

Kabul/New Delhi : Indian national Mohammed Nayeem and a Nepali worker, who were abducted from Afghanistan’s Herat province last month, have been released by their captors, the Indian embassy said Sunday.

The two were freed Saturday evening, the Indian embassy in Kabul told IANS over telephone in New Delhi. Nayeem, who was kidnapped from Adraskan in Herat on April 22, worked as an engineer with Dubai-based HEB International Logistics.

While no group claimed responsibility for his abduction, it was believed to be the work of one of the numerous terror gangs operating in the country.

Nayeem, 39, hails from Mangalore in the southern Indian state of Karnataka and is a father of three children.

The external affairs ministry confirmed his release, but did not give details about his captors.

The Indian embassy said that Nayeem and the Nepali worker have gone back to their employer. The embassy is awaiting details from the logistics firm.
