Bhopal : The Madhya Pradesh government Wednesday ordered filing of criminal cases against officials after a surprise raid on a wholesale market revealed bogus purchase of over 20,000 quintals of wheat.
The wholesale market in Itarsi town, the Krishi Upaj Mandi, had shown in its records that it had bought 24,990 quintals of wheat, paying the minimum support price. But on inspection Tuesday evening, only 4,470 quintals were found.
Hoshangabad district collector G.P. Tiwari has been directed to take penal action against officials, a statement released here said.
Fake entry passes and purchase agreements were prepared and mandi (wholesale market) inspector D.K. Sharma has admitted to the fraud, the statement said.
Involvement of officials of the Food Corporation of India and State Civil Supplies Corporation is also suspected.
