A day after Ceasefire violation, Army lodges protest with Pak Rangers

Poonch, Jammu : A day after alleged violation of ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control in Poonch sector, which led to the death of a solider, Indian army lodged a protest with Pakistan Rangers during a flag meeting, which was held here today.

The flag meeting, sources told News Agency of Kashmir, was held specially to ease tension which mounted between the two sides after `hostile firing’ incident at Krishana Ghati sector of Mendhar on Monday.

“The two sides held a flag meeting at Roshni border post along LoC in Mendhar sector of Poonch district, today”, defence spokesman, Lt Col SD Goswami told News Agency of Kashmir adding that India lodged a strong protest with its counterpart over the ceasefire violation and unprovoked firing.

He said that Indian side was represented by Col Manish Kumar of 2/8 Gorkha Rifles, while Lt Col S Malik represented Pakistan side.

Meanwhile, an army officer, on the condition of anonymity said that the meeting was held in cordial atmosphere and the two sides agreed to uphold the ceasefire agreement as assured by the governments on the both sides.

“We are bound by the government decisions and the meeting was held only to ease the mounting tension on the two sides of border”, he added.

The Indian army submitted a letter of protest to Pak Rangers, who assured that they will take all efforts to avoid any such incident in future.
