Islamabad : Pakistan has released 99 Indian prisoners from several jails as a goodwill gesture.
About 96 Indian fishermen, released on Friday from Karachi jails, and three civilian prisoners, freed from eastern Lahore city jails, were handed over to Indian border authorities at the Indian-Pakistani eastern Wagha border.
The release came just days after the Indian foreign minister visited Pakistan to review fourth round of bilateral peace process and signed a pact to grant consular access to prisoners in either jails.
The two south Asian rivals frequently detain each other’s fishermen for violating their respective territorial waters in the Arabian Sea.
