Srinagar : Normal life across Kashmir Valley was affected Saturday by a strike call given by Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani against President Pratibha Patil’s visit to the state.
Shops, government offices, educational institutions and banks in Srinagar and other towns were shut.
However skeletal traffic was on roads here. The authorities made elaborate security arrangements to maintain peace.
Patil, who Friday met Indian troops at forward areas in north Kashmir, is to address the convocation of Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in Jammu and inaugurate the Jammu University campus at Bhadarwah and the Kashmir Studies Centre, University of Kashmir, in Srinagar. She will visit the north Kashmir mountain resort of Gulmarg Saturday.
The strike hit life in Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Bandipore and Kupwara in the Kashmir Valley.
