Baghdad : The governor of Babel province escaped unhurt a car bomb explosion in western Baghdad on Sunday, wounding at least seven of his bodyguards and four civilians, an Interior Ministry source said.
The blast targeted the convoy of governor Salim al-Muslamawi near the Yarmouk Hospital in western Baghdad, damaging two vehicles of his convoy and a nearby civilian car, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Muslamawi is a member in the leading Shiite party of Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC) headed by the powerful Shiite cleric Abdul Aziz al-Hakim.
In a separate incident, a roadside bomb detonated near a police patrol near the Turkish embassy in the Waziriyah neighborhood in northern Baghdad, wounding two policemen and three civilians, the source said.
A police vehicle and a civilian car were also damaged by the blast, he said.
