New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh underwent a successful cataract operation in his right eye Sunday, and his office said he would resume work Monday.
The prime minister underwent the surgery at the Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here “for cataract removal in the right eye”, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said. He was in hospital for one and a half hours.
Manmohan Singh, 75, was then discharged from the hospital.
He underwent “an intra-ocular lens implantation after a brief surgical procedure”. He was in good health, said a hospital source.
The prime minister has been visiting the AIIMS since 2006 for eye check-ups. “All his visits to the hospital are on Sundays to avoid media attention,” a senior doctor said.
