Mitchellville (Maryland) : Arjun Atwal continued his steady showing at the Melwood Prince George’s County Open with a two-under 70, his best round of the week, for a tied 25th place finish that kept up his bid for a PGA card next season.
The 25th place saw Atwal move one place up on the Nationwide Money List into 13th place, up from 14th last week.
Playing aggressively, Atwal shot six birdies, but he also gave away four bogeys in his 70 and finished four-under 284.
Atwal birdied fourth and sixth, but a dropped shot on seventh kept him at one-under at the turn. A birdie on tenth was nullified by a bogey on 12th, but again Atwal fought back with birdies on 13th and 14th. However, he again gave that back with bogeys on 15th and 16th. He ended the day with a birdie at 17th.
Jeff Klauk, who was among the frontrunners through the week sank a crucial 12-foot birdie to win the title. It also moved him into second spot on the Nationwide Money List, from where the top-25 will earn full playing rights for the 2009 season.
He finished the final round with a 3-under-par 69. He finished it off with a terrific up-and-down for birdie from just in front of the hazard line behind the 18th green.
Klauk was one of the four who shared the lead at The Country Club at Woodmore.
The putt got him to 12-under 276 and in front of Jeff Brehaut, who was holding the clubhouse lead at minus-11 and David Mathis, who was playing in the final group right behind Klauk at 11-under par.
