New Delhi : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is likely to change the timing of Class 10 and 12 examinations in Gulf countries, a request that some schools had made three months ago.
In March, the Millennium School in Dubai had requested the CBSE to change the time the board exams begin – from 9 a.m. now to 10 a.m. from next year. It had written to the board after some of its students nearly missed a Class 12 examination due to traffic snarls.
“Not just one school in Dubai but some other schools in the region following CBSE have appealed to us for a change in examination timing,” CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly told IANS.
“We have received their complaint and are discussing the issues raised by them. Traffic jams have caused some problems this year in some Gulf countries. We will discuss it again and may change the timing. They have some genuine problems,” he added.
Ganguly said the time of the examination cannot be changed in just one Gulf country and any decision will take into account the entire Middle East region.
Over 17,370 students from several Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar and Bahrain appeared for the Class 10 and 12 board examinations this year. Over 100 schools in the region follow the CBSE board.
“The Gulf is an important region for CBSE. The number of students appearing for Class 10 and 12 CBSE examinations are increasing year after year,” Ganguly said.
This year, 93.29 percent of the 6,989 Gulf students have passed the Class 12 board examinations. The results were declared last week.
