Tehran : Iran’s Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar hailed its strategic ties with Syria on Sunday, official IRNA news agency reported.
In a meeting here with his Syrian counterpart Hassan Turkmani, Najjar described Syria as a strategic ally.
“Iran-Syria ties are strategic ties founded on the national interests of the two countries and the world of Islam,” he said.
Turkmani said the robust Iran-Syria ties neutralize and weaken threats against the line of resistance, IRNA reported.
However, Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on Thursday warned that Syria needs to “distance itself completely” from “problematic ties” with Iran in order to reach a lull with Israel.
Syria and Israel have just begun the dialogue of creating a comprehensive peace and ending the Golan Heights dispute.
